Black Friday 2019 marks a new and exciting milestone for Mirakl: we processed a remarkable 1 million orders from consumers taking advantage of Black Friday deals on Mirakl-powered Marketplaces across the globe!
Mirakl has seen remarkable holiday shopping season growth over the past few years. In 2017, Mirakl processed over 200,000 orders during the period of Black Friday through Cyber Monday, creating more than $23M GMV for our customers. That grew to 500,000 and $60M GMV orders in 2018, and this year, the 1 million orders we processed created over $100M GMV for our customers across the globe! Mirakl is proud to be able to support our customers and help them take their piece of this remarkable 100% year-over-year growth.
Through it all, the Mirakl Marketplace Platform had 100% uptime throughout the holiday shopping event. (We can’t say the same for other retailers – it wouldn’t be a record online sales event without some high-profile site outages, and this year was no exception.)
Black Friday 2019 was a big day for eCommerce sales overall, reaching a record $7.4 billion in the U.S. on Friday (a year-over-year increase of nearly 19%). To see exactly which categories were the top sellers on Mirakl-powered Marketplaces during Black Friday 2019, we crunched the numbers:
- United States: Fashion
- United Kingdom: High Tech, Fashion
- German: Health & Beauty
- France: High Tech, Electronics
While Black Friday sales may have started as a post-Thanksgiving shopping event in the U.S., it’s clear that they’re now the start of the holiday shopping season everywhere across the globe. Mirakl customers across the globe, like Carrefour (Brazil) and Catch Group (Australia), were ready to go with some of the biggest deals that they offer all year, with the help of merchants who have been preparing their inventory for the sale since Q1.
I am so pleased to share this strong start to the holiday shopping season at Mirakl, and we are running full speed towards the end of the year. 2019 has already been a big year for Mirakl. We started out by closing a $70 million Series C fundraising round. Since the beginning of the year, we’ve launched nearly 50 new marketplaces and announced new partnerships with industry-leading organizations including Salesforce, Poët, Gorilla Group, and Optaros by MRM//McCann.
In September, Mirakl was honored to be named to the Next40 list of France’s 40 most promising startups with the strongest prospects for global growth. Next40 is part of a broader initiative by the French president to grow France’s “unicorns” – privately-owned startups valued at more than $1 billion USD – and boost digital technology and innovation in France. Our inclusion is a recognition of Mirakl’s status as the leading global marketplace solutions provider and a tech industry leader.
We're lucky to have the opportunity to support such monumental growth for our amazing clients. Here’s to closing out the year strong – and seeing what next year will bring.
