Services marketplaces: a booming market
In 2020, retail e-commerce sales worldwide reached 4.28 trillion US dollars. The results published in Mirakl's Enterprise Marketplace Index showed that marketplaces played a significant role in this growth; in the last quarter of 2020, enterprise marketplaces grew by 81%, more than double overall eCommerce growth.
Marketplaces that sell services are a big part of this growth trend. In recent years, and in the face of increasing demand caused by pandemic, the market has expanded across many sectors. Doctolib, the leading telemedicine app in Europe used by 45 million people, connects patients and healthcare professionals and offers online appointment booking tools and video consultations. Wecasa, a marketplace app for home services including cleaning and hair appointments, saw activity grow 300% during lockdown.
Conforama launches the first home furnishing services marketplace in France
Already one step ahead of the curve with the launch of their product marketplace ‘Marketplace by Confo’ in 2016, Conforama is partnering again with Mirakl to power its new services marketplace. With 16% of the company’s turnover generated online in 2020, the home furnishings brand is already leading with their digital offering for consumers.
Available directly on Conforama.fr, the new marketplace provides customers with services including furniture assembly and the installation of lighting and household appliances.
B2B and B2C service marketplaces make it possible to expand the operator’s offer by better responding to customer expectations. As demonstrated by Conforama's strategy, customers that can access both a product and services marketplace benefit from a fluid and integrated experience.
